Strict CO₂ limits for trucks
EU Parliament agrees
Lesezeit: 5 minutes | Monday, 19. Nov 2018
Trucks account for nearly a quarter of total CO2 emissions in transport in the EU. This is partly why EU lawmakers have advocated for lower carbon dioxide emissions from trucks in the fight against climate change. The Environmental Committee of the European Parliament voted to reduce the emission of the climate-damaging gas by 15 percent by 2020 and by 35 percent by 2030, with penalties announced for violations.
Economic Advantage for Entrepreneurs
The plan to reduce CO2 emissions by 25% by 2025 could, according to Transport & Environment (T&E), bring additional fuel savings of €14,000 per new truck in the first five years. By accurately capturing actual CO2 values, unnecessarily high energy consumption can be identified and addressed immediately. This can lead to a more conscious and fuel-efficient driving style, bringing further savings to the entrepreneur.
DIN EN 16258
The basis for reducing CO2 levels consists of a uniform and precise measurement and calculation method. In order to achieve more transparency, accuracy, and uniformity in the recording and calculation of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in logistics, a new standard has been developed. The new standard is known as DIN EN 16258 and represents a "method for calculating and declaring energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for transport services." Manual calculation of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is very complicated and time-consuming. Therefore, software should be used for the calculation, which automatically calculates the CO2 emissions.
GHG Calculation & Analysis by TachoEASY
TachoEASY's GHG calculation and analysis enable seamless calculation of GHG emissions for all journeys. The calculation of CO2 emissions is based on actual consumption in real-time and can be assigned to a tour or journey.
