Truck toll adjustments
Drivers obligated
Lesezeit: 2 minutes | Thursday, 22. Nov 2018
The government is planning to adjust the rates for truck tolls. The changes are already scheduled for January 1, 2019.
Drivers, in particular, should be attentive to this matter because they are the ones affected by new obligations. Since June 2018, the extended toll requirement has been in effect in Germany. Since the expansion of toll requirements to German federal roads, the various vehicle weight classes have been displayed on the On-Board Units. Inputting the weight class into the OBU has been voluntary until now. If the government's plans are to be believed, drivers will be required to declare the weight class on the OBU from January 1, 2019. For heavier vehicles and vehicle combinations exceeding a weight of 18 tons, the number of axles will also need to be manually entered on the OBU.
IMPORTANT: Failure to set the weight class, according to Toll Collect, will result in penalties and retrospective toll collection.
However, it should be noted that the legislative process is not yet completely finalized, and therefore adjustments to the planned changes from January 2019 may still occur.
