Europe and the Green Deal
Since July 2021, climate protection has become law in Europe - Europe aims to be the world's first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The transportation sector in Europe is responsible for more than 27% of CO₂ emissions - within this group, road freight transport is the largest contributor. Instead of reacting with short-sighted accusations, creative and confident solutions are needed for the transportation sector. (It is worth mentioning the current situation in the UK, which demonstrates the impact on society as a whole when road freight transport comes to a halt).
One of the EU's solutions to achieve the climate goals by 2050 is the ETS (Emissions Trading System) for corporations. The ETS, in simple terms, is a system in which corporations are provided with certificates that authorize them to emit a certain amount of CO₂. These certificates can be traded and sold - creating a financial incentive for entrepreneurs to reduce consumption. Currently, the ETS does not apply to the transport sector, but what is not now could be in the future - making it financially beneficial for the transport industry to reduce CO₂ emissions.
Harnessing Digitalization - Don't Leave Untapped Potential on the Road!
There are many roads to Rome, and many paths can be taken in parallel to ensure a sustainable future and a clean planet for our children. Thanks to digitalization, many of these paths are open to us simultaneously; we just need to seize the opportunities.
For example, digital forms in BlueLOGICO® can drastically reduce unnecessary paper consumption. However, the impact on the environment is comparatively small compared to the potential reduction in CO₂ consumption resulting from the implementation of BlueLOGICO's driving style assessment.
How a Small Graphic Widget Saves the World
At first glance, this suggestion may seem absurd: what does the driving style assessment have to do with cost reduction and CO₂ savings? Some of our customers organize competitions for their drivers to motivate all employees with fun and a wink. This has not only led to a significant reduction in consumption but has also strengthened team morale!
BlueLOGICO® allows different parameters to be set for different vehicle groups - this is essential for fair measurement between suppliers within an urban area and road freight transport drivers. Drivers can view their driving style assessment at any time in the TEOS app on their own tablets or phones and receive recommendations on how to improve their style.
The implementation of this competition has not only motivated the drivers but also raised exciting potentials for cost savings. For example, customers were able to observe a massive increase in unnecessary idling times during the winter months. After auxiliary heaters were installed in the vehicles, idling times decreased dramatically - along with CO₂ consumption and costs.
When examining BlueLOGICO's driving style assessments more closely, many other important areas where massive savings can be made are revealed. For example, consider the use of cruise control. Modern cruise control systems are very effective at saving fuel - but they must be activated. Evaluations of this, combined with factors like altitude profiles, reveal much about the drivers' use of cruise control and provide insight into further savings potential.
If you want to delve deeper into the topic of CO₂ consumption, BlueLOGICO® offers additional features for insight, such as the "CO₂ Calculation" module. Here, you can determine your ecological footprint according to the DIN 16258 legislation!
In summary, many EU regulations will be enacted for the transport sector in the coming years to achieve the EU's climate neutrality goal by 2050. With BlueLOGICO®, you can make your company a little fitter for the future with just a few steps today - this is our chance to leave our children a clean planet!
